Caleb-isms

Caleb, if I don't write these down soon, I am going to forget them! Here are a few things you have done this week that crack me up!

Alphabet

Since you've known your letters for awhile, I asked a friend (with a degree in child development) what I could do next to keep you entertained. She said to start working on what sounds the letters make. So this week I've been telling you what sounds the letters make. "B makes the b b b sound like ball", "W makes the w w w sound like water", "T makes the t t t sound, like Tow Mater" ...

So after we had talked about B, I asked you what sound a B makes. You of course said, "Bzzzzzz." Good call!

Then you asked me what sound a "4" makes, and I had to explain that only letters make sounds but not numbers. You looked at me like whoever created that rule was crazy!

You love to ask about letter sounds, but you have no idea what we're really talking about. :) This is what I keep getting back this week from you:

Caleb: "What sound G make?"

Me: "What sound does the G make, Caleb?"

Caleb: "b b b, wike (like) TOW MATER!"

Caleb: "What sound S make?"

Me: "You tell me, what sound does the S make?"

Caleb: "b b b, wike WATER!"

You have decided that everything makes the "b" sound, and you don't understand at all what the "like " has to do with anything! Ha, maybe we'll slow down on that a little! We'll just work on A this week I think. :)

Make Believe

It seems that pretending is a new favorite game of yours. Yesterday you told me your spaghetti was cantelope. Then you crawled around on the floor, meowing, and told me you were a kitty. You have started playing with your cars like they are people - for instance, yesterday your red car was daddy, and you drove him to work and back home again saying, "Bye Daddy! Daddy go work!" and then "Daddy's home!"

You just got my spatula out of a kitchen drawer and started "makin' eggs". Then you went around the house making whatever you saw - cars, blocks, juice, the letter "o"s, whatever!

Cars

The Cars movie is still your favorite. Earlier this week you said, "Lightening McQueen! Ka-chow!" It made me laugh so hard!

Saying Goodbye

Any time we leave from anywhere, you say goodbye to everything involved. For example, yesterday I had to go get some blood work done, so you went to stay at the Blochs' for a little while. When we left, you talked all the way to the car and all the way out the driveway saying goodbye:

"Bye bye Blochs! Bye bye chickens! Bye bye tractor! Bye bye door! Bye bye red car! Bye bye water!" etc. If we're leaving the store, you say goodbye to every kind of produce we saw, and then every color of car we see in the parking lot.

"Bites"

If you don't know what something is, you pretty much assume it's food. You call them all "bites". So you are constantly telling me, "Want red bite? Want green bite?" And I have to figure out what you're seeing that is red and green that you think is food.

I know I have forgotten some, but it has been so fun lately to see your personality develop as you turn into more of a little boy than a toddler. I can't believe how fast you're growing up! It's funny to see you learn to share (or rather, try to learn to share).

Our friends who just had a baby and have a daughter your age say that she understood what was going on with the pregnancy, so I've started trying to talk to you about your little sister. You either don't understand, or you understand completely but don't want to talk about it at all! Oh well, we'll keep trying!

You did see a toy stroller at church, and I asked you what it was, and you said, "Stroller! The baby on the bus goes wah wah wah!" (which is from your book "The Wheels on the Bus") So you connected a stroller with a baby all on your own (and a crying baby at that). Maybe you're not so confused by the idea that a baby will be moving into our house soon?

Last night as we were getting ready for bed, you asked for a specific song (like you do every night), but I couldn't figure out what song you were asking for. You finally got frustrated enough with me that you sat up straight in my lap and yelled at the door, "DADDY! DADDY! The RAIN SONG!" Like you were fed up with me and wanted Daddy to come get me on the right track! It must have been a song you and Daddy know, because he came in and you were satisfied with whatever he sang!

Speaking of yelling, you love to yell, "MOMMY! WHERE ARE YOU GOING?" whenever I leave the room - including when I try to go to the restroom, thank you very much!

Love you, buddy!

Oh, I remembered one more. Yesterday during your bath, you told me to take off my glasses. Then you splashed like crazy and told me it was raining while you laughed and laughed! It's so fun to see your little brain developing an imagination!

Hey, I can't believe how much Caleb has learned and how well he talks!

I wanted to share some tips from some friends of mine about getting ready to have a sibling. Even though Caleb is a boy and it might not go over so well with daddy, you could get Caleb a baby doll and have him treat it like his little sister and/or show him how y'all will take care of the baby when she comes, put the diaper on her, wrap her in a blanket, how to hold her, etc.

You could also make a picture book with items that she will need/use like crib, stroller, car seat, etc. and talk to him about those things.

I'm sure there are tons more but these are ones I came across recently.

Congrats! Not much longer :)
